The opening of the 2017 season for the Cape Fear National (CFN) Men’s Golf Association (MGA) will be here soon. The MGA will kick start its new season on March 8th with an 8:30 am shotgun, a fun but challenging team competition and a closest to the pin contest all followed by food and drink provided by the MGA.?
Membership is open to men, regardless of golf ability or experience, who are at least 21 years of age, are property owners or residents in Brunswick Forest, or who hold one of the two annual memberships in CFN. The annual MGA membership fee is $45, and $5 is collected for each weekly game in which the member participates. The membership fee and $1 of the fee for each weekly game goes to the MGA treasury to fund MGA activities for the benefit of its members. These activities include opening day food and drinks, other periodic food/keg days, prizes for various contests during the year such as closest to the pin and the annual year-end awards dinner. The other $4 is awarded to the winning teams of that day’s game in the form of credit redeemable at the pro shop.
Each MGA member must maintain an official USGA handicap utilizing the GHIN system offered through CFN. CFN includes the yearly handicap fee in both of its annual membership programs, otherwise members are responsible to join the GHIN handicap system at their own expense. The CFN pro shop staff supports the MGA by enabling weekly registration via an online system, forming the weekly foursomes and teams, organizing, and officiating the weekly game, preparing scorecards, collecting the weekly prize fees, recording our scores in the GHIN system and determining the weekly winners.
Playing in the MGA is a great way to meet folks from the whole Brunswick Forest community and develop friendships beyond your neighborhood. If you are interested, please complete the membership form available at the CFN pro shop and bring it and your cash or check (payable to CFNMGA) to the Cape Fear National pro shop.? The staff at CFN can answer most of your questions or direct you to one of the MGA board members.
