“Many of Brunswick Forest’s residents say living here is like waking up in a resort every day,” said Jerry Helms, Director of Sales for Brunswick Forest. And those who haven’t said it are likely thinking it.

Proudly holding claim as the “Coastal South’s Fastest-Growing Community,” Brunswick Forest is a 4,500-acre residential retreat just 10 minutes from downtown Wilmington. The amenity list is impressive (see sidebar); on a related note, the sales numbers are astounding.

“We just had the two best sales months in our history,” said Helms. He cited 41 sales in June and 42 in July. So far in 2013, Brunswick Forest has had 189 closings, with nearly 100 more properties under contract. A more important way to look at it, the community has welcomed 1100 families.

Helms explained that the developer put all of the core amenities in place up front, creating not just homes people can move into, but a lifestyle they can begin living from day one. Going forward, more amenities are planned as the community grows.

The master plan allows for amenities to touch the perimeters of Brunswick Forest, supporting the core, centrally located facilities, with inter-connectivity between them. The River Club, for example, continues to phase as Brunswick Forest grows. Amenities range from the spectacular 18-hole golf course, Cape Fear National, to smaller scale touches, such as bocce ball and horseshoes areas in Annsdale Park, especially popular during the community’s outdoor summer concerts.Additionally, The Villages at Brunswick Forest, an on-site commercial center for shopping, dining and medical services, continues to expand to meet residents’ needs and desires. Development began on 7,250 additional square feet of office and retail space earlier this summer.

Pool, Times Two

Ground will soon be broken on a second pool in the Brunswick Forest community, with restrooms, changing rooms, covered pergolas and a fitness room on site. Both the pool and the fitness facility are smaller than the ones at the core amenity, meant to create a pocket retreat beside Hammock Lake in the Shelmore neighborhood. The release of new coastal-inspired homes in that area coincides with the building of the amenities, but they are open to all Brunswick Forest residents.

Because walking and biking are the number one activities (so cited by 93% of the people who tour the development), the new pool will connect to the trail around the lake via a walking path, and a large number of bike racks are factored into the plan.

In addition to a wealth of facilities at a surprisingly affordable price, Brunswick Forest offers approximately 50 different clubs and activities for its residents. “This active adult community creates a very strong bond among people who value healthy lifestyle choices and the opportunity to build friend networks based on mutual interests,” said Helms.

For Example: Pickleball

If you haven’t heard of pickleball, you likely haven’t been to Florida recently. The sport is huge in the Sunshine State, and is quickly spreading up the coast.Spearheaded by resident enthusiasts, pickleball is a significant presence in the Brunswick Forest community—among the first in the area to embrace it. Described as halfway between tennis and Ping-Pong, this new sport in the National Senior Games is played on one end of a tennis court using a net, a hard plastic ball, and paddles in place of racquets.

While the pickleball effort is led by residents, Brunswick Forest’s developer strongly supports its growth. Members of the development team took a trip to Florida several years ago to visit communities with a successful pickleball program, and are currently dedicating multipurpose courts for league and club play. They have also purchased paddles available to would-be players for check out.

Meet You Here

Brunswick Forest invites its residents to jump in and get involved, or just sit back and relax, in equal measure.

And they invite everyone interested in living a resort-like existence to call or come by and see it for themselves.
